The ShortHills Cycling Club was started in the summer of 2006 by the founding members of the ShortHillBillys Raceteam. Our Club name was derived from a local Niagara 1,700-acre natural environment park called the Short Hills Provincial Park.
In 2007 the ShortHills Cycling Club took a major step forward in expanding our numbers and organization by attracting another group of local Niagara cyclist called the Thorold Trail Hogs to the Club. In 2008 we fielded two club race teams The ShortHillBillys and the Thorold Trail Hogs. We created websites and an online forum which has been a huge part of our organization acting as a magnet to attract riders from across Niagara.
2009 was the year the ShortHills Cycling Club held its first Club Racing Event, the highly successful Canal Days Mountain Bike Race (CDMBR) in Port Colborne, Ontario during the Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival in August. In the Fall of 2009 the ShortHills Cycling Club took the final steps and created a formal Cycling Club with rules, bylaws, an executive, we became incorporated, insured ourselves and our members through the IMBA Canada. We have had huge support from the City of Port Colborne, the IMBA Canada, Regional Niagara Bicycle Committee and local Niagara Bicycle Shops along the way.
